Argumentation: the third office

Definition of Argumentation.

There remains Argumentation, the final work or office of the art of disputation. It is that by which we collect and conclude one thing from another. Or, it is a statement by which we make a doubtful thing credible.

Species of Argumentation.

The forms or species of this are four primarily: Syllogism, Enthymeme, Induction, and Example.

CONCERNING THE SYLLOGISM, THE FIRST
species of Argumentation.

Syllogism what.

A Syllogism is a statement in which a conclusion is necessarily inferred from two premises. For example:
Every virtue is praiseworthy.
Justice is a virtue.
Therefore justice is praiseworthy.
