Strive always to hear and speak that which is holy: for these things stimulate the soul to good zeal.
Since we each have our own mind as a church in our home: we ought also to perform the sacrifices of the Church within it.
If a congregation is held in the Church, attend it: but if it is not held, depart having yourself sung the apostolic Gospel.
Behold the glory of virtue in the holy: for their glory is immortal, even after death.
You will hate malice most of all when you consider that it is a sword of demons flashing against us.
If you admonish a sinner, mix in words of compassion: and the ears will be softened, and the heart will be enlightened.
When you speak among the holy, speak of the things of the Spirit: but if you are not speaking to such people, speak nothing of these things.
Always urge good actions, lest by leaving them behind, you depart half-finished.
Run so that you may attain the goal: that is, ceaselessly. For it is necessary to live according to virtue until we have finished the stadium of life.
Do not be negligent in the study of the commandments of God: for to such people, labor is in vain, and it heaps labor upon labor.
Exercise patience even before it is necessary, so that you may find its armor ready, even in necessity.
Resist wicked thoughts, and respond to them with what is said in the law: With great diligence withdraw your eyes from this life: for a pernicious smoke coming from it makes the soul turbid.
If you have been caught by some evil habit, cut it off little by little: and without any difficulty you will eradicate the thorn from your soul.
Love God, who is pure, purely: and consider that in all things, all else is to be held in the second place.
If you wish to be a temple of God: offer to Him the sacrifice of assiduity, that is, constant prayer.
Do not take as a consultant one who lives negligently and wickedly: for one who rejoices in evils cannot at the same time hate good things, nor give good counsel.
Abstain from every corruption, and become a participant of the mystical supper every day: for thus our body begins to become the body of Christ.
In all things when you are corrected by God, do not murmur: for He corrects as a father. Therefore, He is worthy to be celebrated with thanksgiving as a benefactor.
If you have been affected by ignominy, rejoice. If you have been treated unjustly, your reward will be plentiful: but if justly, and you have repented, you are already freed from the scourge.
