Now in Palestine there is foul barbarism, and Turkish impiety rules. Conversely, in this country of Arminius and your own, the Son of God, with immense kindness, both gathers the eternal Church and fosters it with sweet peace. Let us acknowledge this benefit of God, and let us consider the causes for which these most beautiful regions in the East lost both the Gospel and honest governance; namely, because impious disputes of arguments kindled the mutual hatreds of rulers, and these attracted foreign nations. Let us beware of these plagues, and with ardent prayers let us beseech the Son of God that He may teach us, and govern us, and make us be one in HIM. Even pious rulers should kindly foster the churches, assist the studies of true doctrine, and wisely suppress growing discords in the young churches. I preferred to write these things to you rather than to say something about my own verses, which your subject, the learned Hildebrand, has published, who both sends them to you and at the same time wished for them to be commended to you by me.
