M. ALB. SULCERI.
Which may recount your spirits and name, grandchildren.
Therefore, so that all things may yield to your vows, bridegroom, with favorable results, do not take it ill what the venerable Thalia muse of poetry recently dictated as a few verses to her poet:
even if our verses perhaps do not lack weight.
FAITH.
Faith, queen of virtues,
The root of good fruits,
The rule of love,
The honor of those who profess CHRIST.
Through me, the heavy indignation of God
Is placated:
Which the harmful guilt of the first parent
Had provoked.
Through me, to the faithful is given
The gift of the remitted crime:
For by his horrible death CHRIST
Paid every debt.
Through me, God wishes to remain
In the hearts of believers:
Which, having been made pure, are thus
The possession of the Holy Spirit.
He who lacks me, lacks God,
He who holds me, holds God,
Lacking faith, he is deprived
Of heavenly joys, an exile.
Following chaste modesty, the spouses
With much favor,
It is a horror to trust in God,
Whether things are happy or prosperous.
Love me, dear bridegroom,
Love me, dear bride,
Strive firmly for children
