the shepherd and lord. Nor do I wish to doubt that the company of fellow soldiers will temper itself to so excellent a governor, obedient to his word. Therefore, it cannot happen otherwise than that a certain relative reciprocity and συμπάθεια sympathy exists here. And just as it is certain that the lord shines forth with the torches of singular learning, not obscure piety, and an innocent life: so, without doubt, the φρόνησις prudence/practical wisdom of the society committed to him, illuminated by the rays of the same, will follow in the same footsteps. These, therefore, are the lucubrations of my observations which I desired to see the light, under the most happy auspices of so distinguished a Prelate: whom I pray greatly that he may not turn away from this light argument of the signification of a grateful mind. Meanwhile, I shall not cease to pray to God Almighty, the unique fountain of all good, that he may further confirm you, most noble Prelate, with his spirit, and that he may heap up and increase in you what he has happily begun for his own goodness, to the glory of his name, and for the health and safety of the society of subjects and the flock entrusted to you.
