Alexander the Great was accustomed to calling the former a "lover of Alexander" and the latter a "lover of the king" among his friends, thus clearly showing how much a flatterer differs from a faithful counselor. For indeed, of these times, it seems that which is expressed in ancient verses can be said: "A thousand years having now passed, there is no faith in pacts; honey in the mouth, words of milk, gall in the heart, fraud in deeds."
