I did not wish to deprive our contemporaries any longer of these fragments of ancient legal authorities, collected before the time of the Emperor Justinian and compared with the laws of Moses, especially since corrected notes are now being published. I hope and desire, above all, that the distinguished Pierre Pithou, given his supreme dedication to the realm of letters, will not take this amiss or consider it a grave matter. Farewell.
