If you spot an error, have a suggestion, or just want to say hello — we’d love to hear from you.

By the privilege of His Royal Majesty, it is forbidden for anyone, without the consent of Christopher Plantin, Royal Sworn Typographer, to print—either jointly or separately—or to import, distribute, or have for sale within all the boundaries of his dominion, the works of Cornelius Valerius of Utrecht, professor of the Latin language at the Trilingual College of Busleiden, for a period of six years. These works, whose titles are:
Four books of grammatical institutions,
A table embracing the sum of the art of Rhetoric, etc.
Tables of the entire Dialectics, etc.
A booklet on the sphere and the first rudiments of astronomy,
An institution of Physics, or the philosophy of nature, etc.
These works have been partly amended and expanded by the author himself this year, and partly newly issued. This is punishable by confiscation and a heavy fine, as is set forth more extensively in the letters given at Brussels on September 3rd and January 27th, in the year 1566, according to the Brabantine style.
Signed,
I. de Wit.
