to err from the foundation of faith, and to foster a
most pestilent dogma, and to lead countless men to
destruction, let him see to that himself. To me, and
to many good men with me, it seems vain that both
he and others of that kind of men have nothing
certain and firm in religion, and that is proven by
the example of many who daily fall from one error into
another, and indeed a worse and openly blasphemous
one. And so, that I may turn my speech from your
Magnificence, to whose constancy even the Adversary
bears witness, to those who with excessive levity
allow themselves to be led into error by such men, or
at least allow their faith to be undermined by them,

and principal causes are by which they are moved to
precipitate themselves into such great impieties and
blasphemies. Perhaps they will say they are eager to
assert the glory of God, and for this reason are

the name of God and Son of God to him, meanwhile in
reality stripping him of deity as much as is in
them, and asserting he is only a man from a
virile concept and seed? Indeed, this blasphemous
dogma has been esteemed of such great impiety in all
ages that it could never persist for long and obtain
any place. Some have taught these blasphemies like
