Even among those whose work God used in our times to reform the church, some for a long time retained certain opinions with which their minds had once been imbued in the Papacy. Yet none of them were of such inconstancy that they thought they had to renew their faith daily, in the manner these men are accustomed to do. While they forge a new faith every year, just as astrologers original: "Genethliaci" forge new almanacs, they show sufficiently that they do not have faith. For they would not otherwise be seeking faith, calling it into doubt again once found, and exposing themselves to the mockery of all. They abhor Papistic doctrine, but they do not discern what is Papistic—devised by the Popes themselves outside the Word of God and handed down to the church—and what is Christian and in agreement with the Word of God. These remarkable men fear that they might join the Antichrist if they believe with us in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; if they acknowledge that Christ the Savior is truly God and truly man in one and the same person. Meanwhile, the wretches do not see that they agree with that great Antichrist, Muhammad, when they pretend that there is only one nature in Christ and deny that he is true God, and with impious Muhammadans they heap insults upon the most holy Trinity. Therefore, it is no wonder that many of their number defect to the Turks and Jews, since they agree with them on the principal articles of faith.
