Budnæus.
Before I approach the refutation of Budnæus, by which he attempts to overturn our arguments, I will touch upon his Preface, and that most briefly. For most things pertain either to his own person or to that of Grochouius. Since both are equally unknown to me, except for what I gather from the very response of Budnæus—that Grochouius is pious, modest, and studious of sound doctrine—I will be able to pass over all these things without the reader's inconvenience, since they do not pertain to the cause. Budnæus bears it heavily that a reputation is spread about him that he has undertaken the task of suppressing the truth. But he will not be able to refute this better than if, by changing his type of doctrine, he henceforth defends the orthodox faith which he now attacks. For as for what he appeals to concerning the testimony of his own conscience, he is not unaware that he can be answered that this is the nearest way to deceive. For indeed...
