How many parts does the forming of youth consist of? ANSWER. Four primarily. Firstly, that the tender mind may imbibe the seeds of piety. Secondly, that it may both love and thoroughly learn the liberal arts. Thirdly, that it may be instructed in the duties of life. Finally, that from the very first rudiments of age, it may become accustomed to the civility of manners.

What is civility? It is the grace and humanity of manners.

Whence does the civility of manners shine forth? From a well-composed mind.

Whence is a well-composed mind known? From the eyes, the eyebrows, the forehead, and briefly, from the countenance itself and the habit of the whole body.
