...He will stand up when the Gospel is recited, and if he is able, he will listen religiously, and with head uncovered. At the name of our Savior he will bend his knees; his eyes will look toward the sermon, his ears will be attentive, and his mind will hang upon it with all reverence.
II.
Is it decorous to chatter trifles, to walk about, to roll one's wandering eyes here and there, or to exercise petulance? By no means: for the first is for infidels, the second for the Peripatetic faction Referring to those who walk about rather than listening attentively., the third for the insane, and the fourth for rogues. Whence it is to be thought that we have entered the temple in vain, unless we depart from it better and purer.
III.
Is it decorous when kneeling to touch the ground with one knee, while keeping the other upright, upon which the left elbow leans? No: for that is of the Jews, who, as mockers, insulted Christ. Therefore, with the body composed for veneration, both knees must be lowered.
