To the Reader.
If by chance, candid reader, you find something in the figures or the version of this golden little book of Heron that does not smell of the diligence and the wonderful erudition of the translator, know that this was printed after his death. Therefore, if anything needs the final touch, because it was not polished by him, blame death; which always snatches away the most elegant things and the talents that should be most highly valued. But I give thanks to the omnipotent God that, with His favoring spirit, it was delayed for so long so that it might not rage against him himself, so that the bite of the envious teeth of others need not be feared for his writings.
