Vau, which is a copulative, expresses the Holy Spirit most excellently, who, since He is the love of the Father and the Son, by which they love one another in turn, is rightly called the copula the connector and bond of both. There is also another mystery here, that the name of four letters consists of the same letters from which the three tenses of the same verb are composed: Past, Present, and Future. So that from this also, the Trinity of the same Persons is most openly revealed, and that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit always were, are, and will be.
7. From the rite of blessing in the Levitical priesthood. For the Priest, when blessing someone, held both his palms extended before his face. But when he said Lord, he raised the first three fingers, namely the thumb, the index, and the middle finger of each hand, higher; and with the word Lord so said, he lowered the fingers as before.
