the reason, by which no other renders a conscience more certain and secure, no other returns a richer fruit, and no other confers more of God’s grace, dignity, and human clarity upon a man. Added to this is not only the protection of lineage, patrimony, and many good things with which you are equipped, but also an outstanding knowledge of Roman Civil Law original: "Iuris Ciuilis Romani": by which you have acquired an honest name and eternal fame and glory for yourselves in the forum and in the administration of the Republic, both among our citizens and others. In France original: "Francia" and in our Republic, such is the common estimation of all regarding you: not only that you excel above others here, where there is by no means a shortage of great and distinguished men, but also that you appear to be those whom we can hold up to outsiders, whether we seek prudence original: "prudentia" and counsel in the management of affairs, or dignity, authority, honesty, and all those arts by which a man excels another man. The present happy and flourishing state of our Republic certainly testifies to your prudence: the events themselves prove your counsels: not only our citizens, but also all who know you deeply, extol your honesty, humanity, and integrity with one voice and with the highest praise. I truly congratulate the happiness of our Republic, which, with you as leaders, will not be shaken by any storms. I congratulate everyone who places virtue and piety first: and especially our own people, who have the most perfect examples set before their eyes to follow and to emulate. What more shall I say? With what alacrity you have undertaken the most difficult and dangerous embassies original: "legationes" for the safety of the fatherland, and with what diligence and dexterity you have carried them out.
