Frischlin, Nicodemus · 1577

And for your sake they rejoice, and congratulate your honor:
They favor with voice, and mind, and pious omens.
On this day sometime the renowned Rome began to hold
Games for all-kindred tribes.
Thus today your entire kindred holds games:
And all your family resounds with joy.
They institute feasts, and dances, and handle many
Joys, not to perish through many days.
On this day sometime the traveler celebrated his feasts:
Because the road was safe on a secure path.
You also should act festive, Aichmann, with labors finished:
Because the long road is finished for your foot.
Often for the traveler there remain obstacles, and mud, and frost,
Often heat, rains, and a sad journey.
Returning to the homes left behind from various dangers,
May he spend joys not lifted by a sad fate:
You have come often into remote successes of Law:
Where heat, obstacles, snow, heat, threatening water are.
Of what bulk it was, what care, to return skilled
From a road previously unknown, and difficult:
You conquered all obstacles with a great-spirited effort:
The road is now very easy for you in the going of LAW.
The public disputation defended for you with the highest praise
Recently from your eloquent mouth, proves it.
The same course presents itself most beautifully in order: fertile
In things: a witness everywhere of your eloquence.
On this day sometime were the feasts of hunters
While Rome was splendid with ancient luster.
You also should act festive, energetic hunter, Aichmann:
Since many a wild beast has been captured by your study.
