nutrition is supplied by the buttery and cheesy substance: the whey and butter are liquid and somewhat cooling: the buttery substance cleanses with its sweet flavor, and the whey with its acrimony: the cheesy substance glues, and the same, with butter, is emollient.

In the classification and selection of milk, for the sake of health, the following species are preferred: human, donkey, and goat. Human milk nourishes more richly: the latter two cleanse more powerfully.

It ought to be given warm and freshly milked, or at least having stayed for the shortest time outside its own receptacles (otherwise it is corrupted most readily, like blood and semen), either by itself, or with a little honey, or sugar and salt, so that it does not sour in the stomach.
LVI.
However, for one who is intensely feverish with a headache, or diarrhea, or flatulence, the use of milk must be forbidden for a while, until those symptoms have subsided.

As for drink, white wine is approved, thin, oligophoron little-bearing (not heady), not vaporous, or diluted with rainwater. Some have been completely cured by the drinking of milk alone, as Rhasis testifies in book 4 of the Continens The Comprehensive Book. This itself will turn out to be more excellent if steel or glowing iron has been quenched in it, and that especially when an ulcer is to be glued. In a febrile heat, if the use of wine is suspected, honey-water or barley-water diluted with myrtle or poppy syrup should be given, etc.
LVIII.
Also, sleep, which is food for the body, must by no means be warded off for one who is thin, provided it is neither at midday nor excessive: when moderate, there is hardly any other remedy more present or excellent for moisturizing and irrigating dry, rough, and squalid bodies, and for repairing and restoring the lost moist substance within them.

Exercises and movements, both of the body and of the mind, that are vehement, disorderly, and unharmonious, as well as hunger, thirst, immoderate vigils, and ta aphrodisia sexual intercourse,
