It is not always the case that the patient is relieved by the physician:
Sometimes the disease prevails more than the learned art.
Do you see how the blood sent forth from the soft lung
Leads to the Stygian waters by a certain path?
Even if the Epidaurian Aesculapius himself brought sacred herbs,
No help will heal the wounds of the heart.
Medicine knows not how to lift the knotty gout,
Nor does it assist those with dreaded waters.
