If you spot an error, have a suggestion, or just want to say hello — we’d love to hear from you.

Pure speech flows when you speak in the Latin manner:
And you were a useful author of books to be written.
And your words are indeed sprinkled with much wit:
And they have I know not what power of gravity.
And salt seasons them: you are dear to your dear friends:
Prompt for duty: and you are strong in counsel.
The celestial Muses delight to dwell with you:
And they favor you from a freer lectern.
"Candor in this wonderful age is a remarkable thing:
"A bird more rare on earth, and white faith: a classical reference to the rarity of true integrity
They have fixed their snowy seat in your breast:
What you feel, you dare to speak fearlessly.
Basel marvels at you: which equals the famous Athens:
For you have the subtle sharpness of a swift mind.
And what is lacking to external eyes, you replenish with your mind.
You are accustomed to fly through whatever you wish with talent:
And you labor to know the whole matter through its causes:
You put the effort of great diligence into this.
"Effort must meanwhile be given: lest sharp reason fail:
"Reason is too inept in sacred matters.
"Whoever clings constantly to the expressed word of the Lord:
"And seizes this with humble hope and faith:
"Does not wander easily: nor do the words of the Thunderer God deceive:
"But reason falls through slippery, easy fraud.
"It is not the judgment of the Mind: but the ethereal Speech
"That must be followed by us: when it is fitting TO BELIEVE.
"And a wonderful thing, faith: as you know most prudently,
"My Grynaeus: revere the good OLD MEN."
It is nearly sufficient: if they follow them: if they wish to teach with profit. And those who teach without method (unless they possess the knowledge of the proposed text) shoot without a target. Colossians 4: Let your speech always be with grace: seasoned with salt. Candor is a wonderful thing in this age, and nearly dead, like your own.
God does not give everything to one alone.
To know among the philosophers is to know through causes: but the matter is different in the mysteries of Faith: in which that one and only saying αὐτὸς ἔφα He himself said it must uniquely prevail. For, as Saint Ambrose testifies, the mysteries of Faith can be believed fruitfully: they cannot be investigated fruitfully: And another of the fathers said piously: Take away arguments where faith is sought: and reasons: believe the fishermen, not the Dialecticians.
