thou hast granted me, having survived the night, to reach this day, grant me also now the ability to spend it serving thee, neither thinking anything at all, nor speaking, nor doing, unless it tends to thy honor and to obeying thy will: so that all my works may reach toward the glory of thy name and the edification of my neighbor. And just as thou deignest to illuminate our bodies, sending the rays of thy sun upon the earth: so also illuminate my heart with the brightness of thy spirit, that it may guide me toward thy justice. And so, in whatever matter I may apply myself, may thy fear always be present before me, and may I refer everything to thy honor, expecting no good from elsewhere than from thy grace and blessing: so that I may not even rush to do anything, unless it is pleasing to thee. Nevertheless, even while laboring to acquire the things necessary for this present life, I proceed further in my mind, looking toward the eternal life, which to thy children

And so, that to whatever matter I may apply myself, may thy fear always be set before me, and may I do all things for thy glory, expecting no good from elsewhere than from thy grace and munificence, so that I may not undertake anything which is not pleasing to thee. Nevertheless, while I labor for the sake of maintaining this life, and I care for those things which are necessary to preserve it, may I lift my mind higher, looking toward the eternal life, which to thy children
