art he who gave me, while I was yet of a tender age, teachers to instruct me in illustrious disciplines, which may be before my eyes for living my life honestly and properly, do not repel me as unworthy from thy light, by which, once the darkness that is in my mind has been diffused, I may become capable of the discipline to be handed down to me. Strengthen also my memory, lest it slip from me.
