GENRE.

The principal genre is προτρεπτικὸν exhortatory because he exhorts those who have been well and rightly instructed to constancy in the Evangelical doctrine. There follows afterward διδακτικὸν didactic/instructive by which he teaches that the doctrine of the Gospel is most ancient and agrees with the doctrine of the Prophets. Thus, some things are ἐπαινετικὰ praiseworthy/laudatory, by which he praises those who are running well. Some things are παιδευτικὰ pedagogical/educational, by which he instructs all orders, as to what is the duty of individuals, and some things are ψεκτικὰ censorious/reproachful, by which he inveighs against the corruptors of sound doctrine.
