...accept these theses, excerpted from the title of the Digest referring to the Pandects of Justinian concerning the Vindication of Property, and proposed for public disputation. This is indeed a small and worthless gift, but small things are not always accustomed to be despised, especially those whose estimation depends not on their own value, but on the spirit from which they have proceeded: although I surmise that even these do not seem small to you, given your supreme affection for the most holy and most serious study of Jurisprudence. For nature is so constituted that we do not regret those things that bring some profit, however small, to the art which we love and practice, but rather we hold them dear, approve of them, and embrace them. Therefore, enjoy and favor these little proposals of mine. I shall strive diligently so that greater pledges of our familiarity and mutual love may exist one day, nor shall I omit anything which I think can make our friendship more manifest. Farewell, and love me as you do. I am brief, as my occupations call me elsewhere.
