But because I see it is the custom that conclusions to be proposed publicly should be published and promulgated under the patronage of someone, I did not think that I would be worthy of reproach if I were to inscribe and dedicate these my vigils, whatever they may be, to your most Illustrious and Reverend name, moved first by the fact that I know Your Highness favors good letters greatly and pursues all learned men with singular favor and humanity. Next, because I persuade myself that Your Highness will not find this material very unpleasant, on account of the many vassals you have bound and obligated to yourself, among whom, as is usually the case, controversies frequently offer themselves to be decided. Therefore, with the submission that is fitting, I offer these Conclusions to Your Highness, submissively asking that, out of your humanity, you may not disdain to receive them with a cheerful face and fair judgment from your most devoted servant, and at the same time kindly act as guardian for me and mine. Fare well, most Illustrious and Reverend Prince, surviving and unharmed for the longest time for the sake of good letters and the governance of the Republic.
