For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith, which is toward God, has gone forth, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves announce concerning us what kind of entry we had to you, and how you were converted to God from idols, so that you might serve the living and true God, and await His Son from the heavens, whom He raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from that coming wrath.
From these things we see what the sum of the Gospel, or that joyful message which God had promised in the Scriptures, truly is: namely, that all the sins of the elect were imposed upon Jesus Christ (who is the Son of the eternal Father, and according to the flesh from the seed of David), Isaiah 53, and by dying for them He made satisfaction; by rising again He brought righteousness and life into the light, so that not even one of the sins of all the elect or believers remained. This righteousness is continued by Him through His ascension into heaven, that sanctuary ἀχειροποίητον not made with hands, and by appearing at the right hand of the Father for us. He also seals the promise of gratuitous righteousness upon our hearts through the Holy Spirit, through whom He restores the elect to His own image, and from there that same Jesus is awaited, who delivers us from that coming wrath. Here you see that the Gospel is nothing other than what is encompassed by the articles of faith. Conversely, another Gospel is one contrary to the articles of faith, about which Christ warned us, so that we might beware.
