The remote or προηγουμένη preceding causes of the disease are the accumulations of bad humors or vapors in the body: which for the most part are phlegmatic or melancholic, collected in the brain, stomach, and other parts: and there, either through long-progressed putrefaction or some other cause, they are corrupted into a poisonous substance.

Also, labor or exercise in plethoric and cacochymic those with an imbalance of humors bodies, anger, idleness, and finally whatever is accustomed to provoke epileptic paroxysms by occult property.

While the brain is affected by itself, these signs precede: heaviness of the head or even severe pain: stupor or slowness of the senses and mind: turbulent dreams: and the attack suddenly befalls the man without any premonition of symptoms.
