...the most Christian King of the French, when he wished for him to command his supreme army, and among our own Raetians, who placed him in charge of their government of Vulturena in previous years, and finally among the most illustrious and Reverend Bishops of Chur, who confirmed him as Prefect of the Domestic Valley, is hidden from none of our Raetians. What shall I say of the authority he enjoys among foreign princes? What shall I say of your cousin, Lord CASPAR SCHOVENSTEIN, whom I greeted last year as Vicar of Vulturena with all our Raetia, and who now has had as his son-in-law and successor the most noble Lord VESPASIANUS, descended from the ancient Saliceor family (my maternal family), a most worthy choice? His son also, Lord THOMAS, possessing talent and learning, has recently returned home to the sweetest fatherland to the great congratulations of all. But you have surpassed all these and other privileges of dignity (about which I shall write at length on another occasion) when I hear that you have been inaugurated and confirmed as Lord of RAETIA and HOHENTHURN. Thus, with all votes gathered and compared, I conclude that congratulations are due to you, to our Raetia, and to the Schovenstein family. I therefore congratulate you on this dignity, ILLUSTRIOUS AND MAGNIFICENT LORD, and I pray to the Creator that this your government may be pleasing to God, salutary to the fatherland, and honorable to you. May He, together with your SPOUSE, the LADY ANNA VON PLANTIS, a most noble matron (whose wedding and entire marriage I pray God, in His fatherly kindness toward all His own, may bless according to my heartfelt wish), favor you with His benevolence for many years, so that I may see you always flourishing, blessed, and illustrious among the highest nobles of Raetia, is my humble prayer. The noble youths our kinsmen, Augustinus and Johannes, sons of Trauerfius, sons of that great Trauerfius, Governor of Vulturena, Johannes Rodolphus Fabius of Praepositi, and Johannes Stephanus de Castello, students of law, together with all our Raetians, offer their services to you and wish for your auspicious administration of the Republic. Happy in God, commended to your noble spouse, your magnificent father, your brothers, and your kinsman, Lord Johannes Trauerfius, Lord of Ortenstein, farewell. Keep in your patronage your Ruinella, who gladly makes use of your protection along with many other pillars of Raetia, as you have done hitherto. Written in haste from my study, the Ides of February, in the year of Christ 1592.
