We shall cool the heat of the kidneys by applying topical medicines that are free of astringency, lest the matter be retained in the constricted passages: and [we shall use those that are] moderately cold, lest by excessive cooling of the kidneys the vessels be rendered narrower, and impotence of generation (which sometimes happens) follows.
