One was Acontius once, now one Acontius remains:
He noble for his writings, this one for his own.
The name is the same for both, and talent commends them both,
Although they enter upon a different path.
The former referring to the myth of Acontius and Cydippe reconciled girlish spirits to the Muses through the son of Latona Apollo,
The latter, learned, reconciles learned men to one another.
The former was avenged by the virgin Delia Diana, but you
Are defended by the Delian God Apollo himself, the god of the Muses.
Just as fever harms Cydippe, who flees the name of Acontius,
So does fever harm those who flee your name.
His body was taken by disease along with his mind:
Unless your breast embraces it, it will stand idle.
The nature that was in the apple from the myth of Acontius and Cydippe thrives in this little book.
Each testifies to his own divine power through his writings.
