chapter 4, a heaviness is present that bothers the whole body, loathing of food occurs, an unequal shivering sometimes follows with a fever, and if the mouth of the uterus is closed, it will be present with a certain hardness, because of which they differ from those who have conceived.

In some, pain with heaviness occurs in the region of the uterus, sometimes in one side, sometimes in the other: indeed, the pain even passes into the hip, and the leg itself which is on that side limps during walking. Furthermore, pain of the loins, neck, and crown of the head is present, which also attacks the foundations of the eyes.

Likewise, burning fevers and thick, red, turbid, and blackish urines, depositing a sort of red dregs, just as if someone had mixed soot into the water from which freshly slaughtered meat had been washed: in some, urine is also passed with difficulty or is completely suppressed, the face is discolored, etc.
XLVII.
If the menses are suppressed for a longer time, and the physician does not promote any evacuation for the woman, some tumor beyond nature sometimes arises in the flanks; in some, a swelling is even excited in the extreme part of the flanks. Galen, 6, de loc. aff., chapter 4.
