of the French, the Most Christian, when he wished him to command his supreme army, and among our Rhaetians, who placed him in charge of their Vulturena government in previous years, and finally among the most Illustrious and Reverend Bishops of Chur, who confirmed him as Prefect of the Domestic Valley, is hidden from none of our Rhaetians. What shall I say of his authority, which he wields among foreign Princes? What shall I say of your cousin, Lord Caspar Schovenstein, whom I greeted last year as Vicar of Vulturena with our entire Rhaetia, and who now has the most noble Lord Vespasian, originating from the most ancient Saliceorus (my mother's family), as his son-in-law and chosen successor, and most worthy? Whose son, Lord Thomas, powerful in genius and learning, recently returned to his most sweet fatherland with the congratulations of all. But you have surpassed all these and other privileges of dignity (about which more at another offered occasion) when I hear that you have been inaugurated and confirmed as Lord of Rhaetia and Hohentruns. And thus, with all the votes of all gathered and collected, I conclude that congratulations are due both to you and to our Rhaetia and to the Schovenstein family. I therefore congratulate you on this dignity, ILLUSTRIOUS AND MAGNIFICENT LORD, and I pray to the Creator that this, your administration, may be pleasing to God, beneficial to the Fatherland, and honorable for you. I pray as a suppliant that He may embrace you, together with YOUR BRIDE, LADY ANNA A PLANTIS, a most noble matron (whose nuptials and entire marriage I pray, out of a happy vow of my heart, that God, with the paternal kindness He has toward all His own, may bless), with His benevolence into Nestorean years, so that I may happily see you always flourishing, blessed, and illustrious among the highest nobles of Rhaetia. The noble youths, our relatives Augustus and Ioannes, brothers of that great Trauerfius, Governor of Vulturena, Ioannes Rodolphus Fabius of the Prefects, and Ioannes Stephanus de Castello, most studious of the law, together with all our Rhaetians, offer their services to you and desire your auspicious administration of the Republic. With these things, happily commended to God, with your most noble spouse, the Magnificent Lord your father, brothers, and your relative Lord Io. Trauerfius, Lord in Ortenstein, Farewell, and keep your Ruinella, who gladly uses your patronage and that of yours along with many other columns of Rhaetia, commended, as you have done hitherto. Hastily from my study, the Ides of February, in the Christian Year 1582.
Your Illustrious Lordship's
Subservient,
Andr. Ruinella.
