Everything is derived from principles common to both sides and αὐτοπίστοις self-evident truths. There is no one who would openly deny in word that Christianity is the true and certain religion; and I do not intend to have any business with those who would dare to deny this. It is no less certain or evident that Pharisaism is diametrically opposed to Christianity. For whoever would dare deny this would, by the same reasoning, dare to deny that an affirmation is repugnant to a negation. That Papism is consistent with and most similar to Pharisaism cannot be demonstrated more certainly or openly than through a comparison of the principles of each religion. And indeed, the principles of Pharisaism can certainly be sought from the Gospel history; but those of Papism from those things which its own authors and defenders once wrote, and which its followers today pertinaciously defend. Who is so unlearned that he does not understand what the conclusion of this reasoning ought or can be? Let candid readers therefore judge, even those who are not entirely unjust or stubborn among the followers of Papism. But I wish to warn you, candid reader, that it is by no means my intention to provide everything that pertains to demonstrating or defending the truth of Christianity.
