ORTH. It is easy to declaim to the ignorant masses about the omnipotence and omnipresence of Christ, and to bring others into dark suspicion under a plausible pretext, and to attribute a corrupt doctrine to them. But it is not so easy to prove the things you have rashly blared. For the word of God, when foolishly understood, is not the word of God.
ERIST. On the contrary, we derive the omnipotence of the humanity in Christ from the personal union, and thus from a real communicatio proprietatum communication of properties, about which Holy Scripture testifies.
ORTH. No one who thinks correctly and according to the prescription of Holy Scripture will grant that you are able to prove such a real union or communication from Holy Scripture. Come, therefore, let us see what each of us thinks about the personal union.
ERIST. I agree.
ORTH. If this is agreeable, let us implore the help and aid of Christ the Savior, concerning whose person we are speaking. May he therefore be present with us by his grace, and may he illuminate our minds with the light of his truth, so that we may judge rightly and be able to bring forth, embrace in our hearts, and defend things that are true and salutary.

ERIST. I will speak, then. The personal union is an inseparable and perpetual conjunction of the divine and human nature into one person. Or, it is the communication of the fullness of all divinity, by which the divine nature communicated all its properties to the human nature, not merely in word but in reality, and poured its perfections into it, so that it works nothing outside the human nature, but everything with it, in it, and through it. And so that the human nature in Christ does not merely become powerful, but omnipotent, of equal majesty, glory, and power with the Word, and therefore God by grace.
