THESIS I
Since the Jesuits stir up a dispute with our churches concerning the invocation of the Mediator, to persuade us that not only our Lord Jesus Christ, as the one Mediator between God and men, is to be invoked, but also that we are to appeal in prayer to the Virgin Mary, the Theotokos Mother of God, above all, and then to the holy Angels and the spirits of the pious who dwell in heaven with Christ Jesus, as subordinate intercessors: it is our purpose to show, first, on which points we and they agree: then, what the head of the controversy is: and what is to be decided about it by pious minds.
II. That we have need of a Mediator.
Since God, who is supremely just, is seriously angry at us sinners, and since no association can be established between the immense majesty of God, which is spiritual and infinite, and human nature, which is finite and consists of an intelligent mind and an organic body, without the intervention of a suitable mediator original: "Sequestrum", both sides admit that those who duly invoke God the Father have need of a Mediator.
III. That the Mediator is to be adored.
But also this is indisputable and certain: that this Mediator of ours, so that he may intercede for us before the Father, must be invoked.
