Grynaeus, Johann Jakob · 1583

Lest mortals despise your divinity, Christ,
take up the task of defending your own name.
The collapsed house crushed the blasphemer Cerinthus,
when he sought to attack your name, Christ, with mockery.
The bowels of Arius were poured out in death,
when he sought to attack your name, Christ, with mockery.
These were once the certain rewards for blasphemers,
when they sought to attack your name, Christ, with mockery.
But now many thousands blaspheme your name;
why do you not cause similar men to perish by a similar death?
Is your hand withered? Or has the glory, once
dear to you, ceased to be your concern?
Or do you perhaps delay the punishment, so that later,
unless they repent, they may pay with double interest and currency?
That is: therefore, mortals, put aside this mindset,
lest the wrath of a vengeful God consume you.
