Likewise, if a body has been made hotter and drier in the second degree, it must again be cooled and moistened in the same degree by the use of other cooling and moistening things.

The quantities and qualities of things consumed must therefore be diligently observed: for where more food than is natural is ingested, it creates disease.

In the sick, also, not only in the healthy, respect must be had for the measure of things that are consumed, lest they ingest food or drink immoderately, but they should consume only as much food and drink as they feel does not harm them and by which they feel they are in good health.

For grave and dangerous alterations happen to our bodies from the immoderate and excessive use of them. Daily experience teaches that gluttony, or immoderate ingestion, is the cause of many ailments.

Fasting, also, if it exceeds measure, must be avoided.

From this, one can see that both of these, namely the excessive use and a longer fast, must be avoided.
