If you spot an error, have a suggestion, or just want to say hello — we’d love to hear from you.

To the illustrious and in domestic nobility most splendid man,
Lord Odoardus Thyeno, Count of Ciconia, his honorable Lord. Greeting.
Large ornamental drop cap 'A' featuring floral and scrollwork motifs.I bring to you, illustrious and generous man, a small gift, of the kind that ours usually are, that is to say, made of paper, and thin. Since you, in loving and honoring me, omit no kind of duty, I wished at least, with this thin little work, to show a sign of a grateful mind, since no other way has been opened to me. And although it is of such a nature that it cannot be recommended, especially before such a man, nor confer anything upon the dignity and splendor of your virtues, nevertheless, such is your candor and your zeal toward me, you will, I hope, admit this little guest with a grateful mind, and you will allow it to come forth more adorned and recommended by the splendor of your name.
May the Lord Jesus preserve you with your entire family. Amen. Farewell, Bern, the Kalends of February, 1574 Note: The date 1574 appears to be an error or specific reference in the original source, despite the title page date of 1584..
