The Argument of the Epistle.
Decorative drop cap 'A' featuring floral patterns. The Apostle James instructs the pious more on how one should live than on what one should believe. Therefore, he always speaks of the morals of the reborn man, not equally of faith. But for those who profess the religion of Christ, he requires first of all tolerance under the cross, which is thrust upon us in the name of Christ, from which he diligently separates that species of cross which our flesh imposes upon us. Next, he teaches that one must assemble in gatherings without prosopolipsia respect of persons/partiality, and that faith must be rightly adorned with every zeal for good works, lest we be deceived by some empty phantom, just as certain philosophers discoursed speciously about virtues, while in the meantime their own morals were defiled by every foulness of wickedness, etc.
