A decorative drop cap letter O features floral and scrollwork patterns.This Apology was prefixed to the Orthodox consensus of the ancient Church regarding the mystical Supper of the Lord original: "Cœna Domini", which we recently published not without grave reasons. Men distinguished for their learning and piety judged it worthy to be printed separately, so that it might be read and known by many. We have therefore complied with their advice, and having added a few things here and there, we present it to the whole Church. Above all, however, we ask Christian Princes—at whose gate the Church, weakened and wounded by the hateful struggles of so many years, lies resting and with tears seeks aid and remedy for her wounds—not to ignore the complaints and groans of the miserable and afflicted with deaf ears, and not to allow innocent men, under the odium of a fabricated crime, to suffer peril and be maligned, to the public and most harmful scandal of the whole world.
