...and common error of good and teachable men, but an obstinate and blasphemous defense of many horrible heresies, a denial of the omnipotence and truth of Christ, and, in addition, an Isagoge introduction and preparation for Nestorian, Arian, and Turkish impiety, and finally blasphemy against JESUS CHRIST, by which the articles of the Christian faith are horribly perverted and adulterated. They claimed they could not speak in any language other than that of the Holy Spirit, who, through the Apostle Paul, pronounces anathema upon those who evangelize beyond what has been evangelized by the Apostles.
The gravity of the cause.
Although we are well aware of our own innocence, because those proud and fierce masters of the faith have progressed so far that—while they refuse a legitimate examination of the case—they constitute themselves as both accusers and judges by their own authority; and since the matter is no longer about the sense of this or that passage of Scripture, but about the glory of God, the public safety, the peace of the Churches, and the private conscience of each individual (each of which ought to be more precious to Christian men than their own lives), we cannot ignore such an atrocious accusation or, rather, calumny.
