of mine concerning both disciplines,
herbal medicine and anatomy, along with
the musk, together with the theses I have de-
bated and certain others, with this virtual
dedication specifically to your Noble Human-
ity, O illustrious Baron, because you have al-
ways embraced me with singular benevolence,
and because in this your age, endowed with
erudition of doctrine and sharpness of wit, and,
as that man says, πολλῶν ἀντάξιος ἄλλων worth many others,
you are able to pronounce judgment on argu-
ments of this kind and apply your critical
file. Nor has the memory of the pursuits of
your nobility slipped from us, born for nothing
if not for the public good and dignity; but it
is known and attested by the Fates how hap-
pily it [your character/intellect] grew (which
is a very rare example) in many letters, and
not those common ones,
