Therefore, what we see practiced today in the Church, so that teachers are constituted primarily by ecclesiastical authority as if by divine disposition (which is done in our own and other Catholic universities), this same thing has always been held as solemn by our ancestors. From this common custom and practice, Eusebius also records that Origen was constituted a teacher in the Alexandrian school not by himself, but by the Bishop. Book 6, History, chapter 3.
