...endowed with a Christian foot, testify that he was not addicted to the authority of any man, but that from the Christian faith itself, he had observed the non-orthodox interpretations of this place and had learned its true meaning. But, you say, faith is not to be placed before the word. As if he who is in doubt about the interpretation of some place in the Scriptures—whether it is orthodox or otherwise—places faith before the word by deciding that he cannot see the truth by any better or more expedient path than if (as the Apostle advises in Romans 12:6, and as the matter itself demands) he tests it against the norm and rule or ἀναλογίαν analogy of the articles of the Christian religion.
For who doubts that the doctrine which agrees with them is true, and that which differs from them is false? If this were observed by you, you would certainly not build a new article of faith from these words of the institution of the Lord's Supper, as the Papists have also done, which is diametrically opposed to the other articles of faith that are placed beyond controversy; rather, you would have long ago embraced the true opinion with us. Is there truly someone who observes this analogy of faith, similar to the Enthusiasts, who neglect the word of God and rely on their own speculations, or bend the word of God itself to them: yet you conclude thus.
