How many undisputed pronouns are there? Sixteen. Which? "I," "you," "of oneself," "that one," "he himself," "that one there," "this one," "that one," "who," "my," "your," "his/her/their," "our," "your," "of our country," and "of your country" Ego, tu, fui, ille, ipse, iste, hic, is, quis, meus, tuus, suus, noster, vester, nostras, & vestras.
ACCIDENTS OF THE PRONOUN.
How many things happen to a pronoun? Nine. Which? Quality, signification, species, gender, number, figure, person, case, with declension.
QUALITY.
How manifold is the quality of pronouns? Twofold. How? For pronouns are either finite or indefinite.
What are finite? Those which demonstrate or refer to a certain and finite substance, that is, those which receive persons: as "I," "you," "that one."
What are indefinite? Those which are said concerning an uncertain and indefinite thing, that is, those which do not always receive certain persons: as "who," "which," "what."
SIGNIFICATION.
How many significations of pronouns are there? Four. Which? Demonstrative, Relative, Possessive, and Gentile or Patriotic.
What is demonstrative signification? That which signifies something as if it were pointed out: such are these eight pronouns: "I," "you," "this," "that one there," "that one," "that," "he himself," and one in the oblique cases, "of oneself."
What is relative? That which repeats something from the preceding discourse: as, "Cicero is read, and he is especially to be heard."
There are three, however: "that," "he himself," and "who." "That one" Ille is sometimes demonstrative, sometimes relative.
What is possessive? That which signifies something as belonging to a possessor: and there are five: "my," "your," "his/her/their," "our," and "your."
What is patriotic or gentile? That which signifies not only a nation or country, but also factions or sects, such as "of our country" and "of your country."
SPECIES.
How many species of pronouns are there? Two, just as with nouns. Which? Primitive, which is not derived from elsewhere: to which belong eight pronouns: "I," "you," "of oneself," "that one," "he himself," "that one there," "this one," "that," and "who." Derivative, which are derived from elsewhere: to which belong seven pronouns: "my," "your," "his/her/their," "our," "your," "of our country," and "of your country."
GENDER.
How many genders of pronouns are there? Four. Which? Masculine, as "who": Feminine, as "which": Neuter, as "what": Of three genders, as "I," "you," "of oneself."
