Grynaeus, Johann Jakob · 1587

A decorative drop cap letter V. There is one God: there is also one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 1 Tim. 2:5.
From this divine oracle, these three theorems are gathered:
1. THERE IS ONE GOD.
2. CHRIST IS ONE.
3. THIS JESUS IS THE CHRIST.
God is one.
The Given:
God, Jehovah, who is Spirit: who alone has immortality, dwelling in inaccessible light: who alone is wise: from whom, through whom, and in whom are all things. John 4:24, 1 Tim. 6:16, Rom. 16:27 & 11:36.
The Question:
He is one, or unique, according to the saying: Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God, Jehovah is one. Deut. 6:4.
The Construction:
Axiom: There are three who testify in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one. 1 John 5:7.
The Demonstration:
If the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit are one, namely in Essence, then it follows that God is one.
That which precedes is true, as the axiom advises, to which can be added the saying of the Son of God: I and the Father are one.
