Grynaeus, Johann Jakob · 1587

absurdity. That it is not for us to believe with certainty and firmness:
1. In God the Father, creator and preserver of the universe of things:
2. In Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer:
3. In the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, who sanctifies us:
4. That there is a holy, catholic Church, the communion of Saints:
5. That sins are certainly remitted to us through and because of Jesus Christ:
6. That the resurrection of our flesh and eternal life is certainly promised to us:
7. That it was done rightly by Paul, as often as he both pronounced affirmatively regarding his own election and that of other pious men, and gloried in the Lord.
THE RATIONALE is most evident. For since other divine ἀποτελέσματα results/effects depend upon Election—effective Calling, Justification, Sanctification, Resurrection from the dead: just as the confidence of Election being placed, the most certain confidence—called πληροφορία full assurance by Paul—of Calling, Justification, Sanctification, and Resurrection is established: so, with the confidence of Election denied, the faith of all these is destroyed. And if even a single link of the golden chain of our faith is broken, the others are also dissolved: if in one part the harmony of faith is disturbed among itself, the πανδημονία confusion of all is disturbed.
VIII. Conclusion.
Therefore, it is manifest that the Reborn ought to determine with certainty regarding their own election, and that of other reborn persons, and to glory in His name in the Lord: ὅπερ ἔδει ποιῆσαι which was what had to be done.
IX. Corollaries.
1. Whoever, therefore, rightly denies that we ought to doubt regarding the grace of Justification, or the remission of sins: but permits us to ἐπέχειν suspend judgment and waver regarding Election, and considers that modesty: they offer themselves to be mocked by the adversaries of our faith, as those who substitute a sandy foundation of ἐποχῆς suspension of judgment regarding Election underneath the most beautiful and adamantine building of our Justification.
