But this, by the definition of the Apostle James, is pure, peaceable, gentle, tractable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy. James 3:17.
All these attributes are contained in the word Peace.
XII. Final Demonstration.
From the end, ῶ, cui to whom. The saints, as συγκοινωνὸς partakers, must be conformed to Christ: according to the last Axiom.
But Christ loves Truth and Peace most highly. John 1:14: Full of grace and truth. Chapter 18:37: For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, that I might bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice. And Chapter 16:33: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you might have peace.
XIII. Complexio Conclusion.
Therefore, we also must most highly love and follow TRUTH and PEACE: ὅπερ ἔδει ποιῆσαι which was necessary to do.
XIIII. Τὰ πείσματα The convictions, or Consectaries.
But since it is the task of the same science to consider Opposites, as Aristotle correctly said in Metaphysics 4, come, let us touch briefly, and ὡς ἐν τύπῳ as in a type/outline, upon those things which, by Διαιρέτες division/dichotomy, fight against that holy exhortation to love both Truth and Peace equally.
I. FIRST, therefore, one sins most gravely by introducing a divorce between TRUTH and PEACE. The authors of this sacrilege are those who think the following is said to them least of all: "Knowledge puffs up, but charity edifies." Also: "If I have prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge: and if I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not charity, I am nothing." 1 Corinthians 8:1 and 13:2.
But of these, some know the Truth and profess it, while it is convenient, but for the sake of something else: for example, wealth, glory, and the favor of men. But they are destitute of the τῇ πληροφορίᾳ full assurance of their own salvation: as is to be seen in the examples of Apostates.
