the invocation of God, and hope. And Paul says of these: The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but divinely strong, for the subversion of fortifications. 2 Cor. 10:4.

Now, since the ignited darts of the Devil—sometimes of thoughts, sometimes of affections, sometimes of words, sometimes of deeds—are carried as if pushed by certain violent machines, let us see how they are to be either declined, or parried, or blunted and extinguished.

It must be confessed that which is said by the proverb: psyches nosouses eisi iatroi logoi For a sick soul, words are the physicians. The physician for a sick mind is prayer. But this must be established from the Word of God, according to the saying: Your testimonies also are my delights, and the men of my counsel. Psalm 119:24.
But it matters much to know both whose conversations are most to be sought by him who has been struck, and how, when inevitable necessity presses, one must confer even with the most hostile men, and indeed with the Cacodemon original: "Cacodæmone" evil spirit/demon himself: so that just as those struck by Scorpions recover their health by crushing those same [scorpions] on the affected part, so they may likewise serve their own consolation and restoration by blunting the darts of Satan.
XXI. A Soliloquy with God.
It is said most sweetly in Isa. 57:15: Thus said the high and sublime one, dwelling in eternity, and whose name is HOLY: I inhabit the high and holy place, and with the contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
Having therefore through Christ access by one Spirit to the Father, Ephes. 2:18, let us enter with confidence into the sanctuary of God when we grieve that we are struck by Satan; and let us cry out each of us with Job: I have sinned; what could I do to you, O CUSTODIAN OF MEN? Why have you set me as an obstacle to you, and am I a burden to myself? Job 7:20.
Let us, however, look with faith to our Mediator, of whom it is said: If anyone has sinned, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the just. And he is the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 2:1-2.
