All pious minds are greatly delighted by the judgment and opinions of even one Doctor from the learned antiquity, a man of grave piety and doctrine, most loving of the orthodox consensus of the Catholic Church, and most experienced in the controversies regarding Religion. For they understand that reverence is owed to the Ancients, who excelled in the study of truth and piety, and who, amid the mid-point of religious struggles, abstained from turbulent contention and conducted the cause of truth nēnēmōs calmly/windlessly, gently and modestly: according to the opinion of the exoteric verse:
"I will not be willing to contend with men of old."
